MYANMAR GIVEN GREEN LIGHT TO SHIP SECOND BATCH OF RICE EXPORTS TO JAPAN

Myanmar agreed preliminary deal with Japan to export the second batch of rice to the one of the most developed economies in Asia, local newspaper The Voice reported. 

Myanmar Rice Federation President Chit Khaing told The Voice that Myanmar and Japanese rice merchants agreed on the shipping of more than 200,000 tons of quality rice for the second time in nearly five decades. 

Myanmar Agriculture Public Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation have reached initial agreement the agriculture, forestry and fishery ministry for the rice exports from Myanmar. 

Mitsubishi will take charge of marketing while MAPCO the supply of quality rice, Chit Khaing said. 

Myanmar shipped the first batch of rice exports to Japan in last May with exports of 5000 tons of rice. 

The major challenge of supplying quality rice to the international market is that around 80 percent of rice production from Myanmar’s rice mills are of low quality.
